What a great weekend had at the Maori Pasifika Water Polo Tournament in Tauranga.
Jimmy Okawa was playing in the U14 Pango team, and they finished 6th.
Tommy Oram was playing in the U14 KΕwhai team, who finished 4th.
Paddy Oram was playing in the 16 Pango team, and they finished 4th.
Bella and Emma Needham were playing in the U18 Dreamers team in the U18/Open division. They played off for gold on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, they didn't come away with the goods, but as they were playing against an Open Team, they can take the honours of being the top U18 team.
Congratulations to all of these players for heading away to this tournament and for giving it your all. It can be a bit scary playing in a team of unfamiliar faces, but they all learned to work together and to work to their strengths π
These 5 players have all headed home with a renewed passion for water polo, and are looking forward to getting back in the pool.
To the brains behind the tournament (Wayne, Ro, and Noah), we love your work, and thank you for your organisation during the year. It is such a great event to start the year of water polo. If you are of Maori or Pasifika descent, we suggest you keep Waitangi weekend free in 2026 π
